Balm Lake is a spring fed lake with over 700 acres of prime fishing. Known for trophy walleye, northern pike, bass and panfish - the very best panfish fishing around (ok, we are prejudiced). Everybody can catch something...kids of all ages will enjoy the ease with which they will "catch dinner." Some of our biggest "wall hangers" have been caught off the dock! Below is sone general info on some of the fish found in here.

YUMMY! Walleye, Minnesota's most famous fish! It produces a wonderful, thick almost white fillet that is just delicious. Walleyes are a challenge, but not impossible. The name comes from that distinctive white eye, a reflective layer of coloring or pigment, that helps give it good night vision and the ability to navigate murky lake bottoms. Steve and Bob can show you where the Walleyes are biting - WE PROMISE! They stay on top of what is biting and where, so they can lead you right to them. Just ask. From Mid-June all the way until the middle of August, Steve will find the Walleyes. Now that is a bold statement and he backs it up! Click here for lotsa shots of Walleyes caught by our guests.

The Northern Pike is SUPER easy to catch, because the hungry monster will snap at almost anything! Almost as tasty as walleye, the northern also has a white fillet. The master fisherman say that northerns stay in shallow water early in the season and then move into the deeper water as summer progresses and the water gets hotter. Sometimes smaller northern stay in shallow water all season.

A lake such as Balm can be a bonanza for bass. Both small and large mouth bass can be found here...it is just up to you to catch 'em! There is a new slot on bass for Balm Lake. You can keep one over 20" and none between 12" and 20". We gotta keep the lake stocked for the future, but you can catch and release all day long! Wanna see some BIG FISH? Click here.

Crappie Heaven! How many of you remember that very first fish you caught? The excitement of it hitting your hook and your squeals of delight! Then you hauled that enormous, to you, crappie or perch up into the boat and were the fisherman of the day! Balm Lake is chock full of memories like that waiting for your kids to create. Panfish abound here and we want to see your kids making those kinds of memories. Panfish are perfect for kids (ok, and adults also) to fish for...you don't need a ton of gear or the expertise of a master fisherman...just a hook, bait, bobber and a sinker on a little rod, or even a cane pole, and the kids are ready. Keep it simple, keep it fun and you will have a family outing that will be remembered forever. Click here for some fabulous shots of kids and fish.

Besides, as we always tell our guests - "The GOOD fishermen ALWAYS catch fish!"
